EDTA, EthyleneDiamineTetraAcetic acid Tetra Sodium salt
EDTA is one of the most widely used, strong, cost effective and general purpose chelating agent. Heavy metal ions can catalyse the degradation of ingredients used in personal care products and the EDTA chelating agent deactivates these undesirable metal ions, maintaining quality and improving shelf life. Widely used in the cosmetic industry for various purposes. Off-white powder, no odor.
The EDTA chelates are stable over a wider range of temperatures and pH values, have a strong affinity for metals and are efficient. They also have excellent water solubility and are inert to most chemicals.
Disodium EDTA is used in neutral to mildly acidic products, like most creams and lotions and neutral pH liquid soaps and shampoos. Tetrasodium EDTA is recommended for alkaline products, like most handcrafted soap (and can also be used in creams and lotions).
Counteracts the defoaming action of hardness ions on toilet soaps
Prevents chalking, rancidity, and metal-catalyzed discoloration in bar and other solid soap formulations.
Additional quantities may also improve foaming, soaping action, and the “feel” of soap at normal bathing temperatures.
In creams, oils, and ointments, works synergistically with the preservative system to improve efficacy.
In creams, oils, and ointments can prevent discoloration, rancidity and other undesirable metal-catalyzed reactions.
In shampoos, will enhance shelf life and may be used to soften the water with which the liquid shampoo is diluted during manufacture.
